Wetsuits for kids
If you are looking for a kids wetsuit, then you have surfed to the right place! Why? Because since the development of the first wetsuit by our founder Jack O’Neill in 1952, we have been at the forefront of wetsuit technology and functionality. Our wetsuits for children have the same unique features as the men’s wetsuits and women’s wetsuits, with the perfect fit for young talents. In our collection you will find children’s wetsuits in various colours, styles and variants. Moreover, as a surf brand, we know better than anyone how important it is that children can play freely and carefree in the water. Protect kids from the sun with our UPF 50+ UV t-shirts.
For various sports
O’Neill’s designs make our kids' wetsuits the best on the market. A wetsuit, also called a surf suit, keeps your kids warm in cold water. How does this work? It is very simple. A wetsuit is made of neoprene and fits tightly around the body. It traps a thin layer of water between the skin and the suit. This layer is then heated by your own body heat. Tip: if a children’s wetsuit is too large, water can flow in and the insulating effect will decrease. Do you see creases under the armpits? Take a size smaller for a better fit and function. Our children’s wetsuits are suitable for various sports such as swimming, supping, surfing and diving. With a wetsuit on, your kids can enjoy water activities all year round.
A short wetsuit or a fullsuit
Wetsuits are available in various types. Such as full suits and short ones (also called shorties). The difference between a short suit and a full one is that a full suit covers the entire body. It is a great choice for average temperatures. A short wetsuit has a completely different design. As the name suggests, this is a shorter wetsuit. Only the upper body and the upper parts of the arms and legs are covered. This makes short suits perfect for water sports activities in water with warmer temperatures.
Various sizes of children’s wetsuits
Children’s wetsuits can be found at O’Neill in different sizes. They run from size 1 to 16. Which size your child needs depends on his or her height, weight and the circumference of the chest and waist. Do you want to be sure to order the right size wetsuit for your kids? Check out our handy kids wetsuit size chart and find out for yourself. Here you will also find the size overview for other surf clothing and accessories.
O’Neill’s wetsuits are available in thicknesses from 1 mm to 6 mm. The thicker the neoprene, the warmer the wetsuit. Depending on the water type, you choose the right thickness. We indicate the thickness of a wetsuit in two numbers. For example: 5/4 mm. The number in front of the '/' stands for the thickness of the neoprene on the back and abdomen for sufficient warmth. The 2nd digit means the number of mm on the arms and legs for optimal freedom of movement. Below, you can see exactly which thickness fits which water temperature.
Wetsuit thickness kids | Temperature (℃) |
UV shirt or Lycra | 26+ ℃ |
1 mm wetsuits | 21℃ - 25℃ |
2mm wetsuits or shorty | 18℃ - 20℃ |
3/2mm wetsuits | 12℃ - 17℃ |
4/3mm wetsuits | 8℃ - 11℃ |
5/4mm wetsuits or 6/5mm wetsuits | 4℃ - 7℃ |
7+ mm wetsuits | Below 3℃ |
Remember that this is just a guideline! Preferences could be different per body type! Check our page about wetsuit thickness if you want to know more about this topic.
